Looking For a Fight – Part 3

As promised earlier, here are some pointers for the rank 4 and 5 fights. Do note that people with better equipment can blast through these fights without much trouble; these notes won’t be all that necessary if you sport fully upgraded epics.

Rank 4

Starting up this rank is Crush, a reminder of a raid boss of expansions past. For a hunter this fight is again extremely easy; keep away from him as he loads up his Collision and you’ll be fine. Back in Trial of the Crusader, Icehowl used to take higher damage when he had stunned himself on the wall; Collision’s tooltip gives no indication of the same but I used my cooldowns during the stun regardless.

  • Talents and glyphs: anything that helps you kite when Crush is not stunned
  • Utility pets: Bat, Wasp, Shale Spider, Warp Stalker

Leona Earthwind is a night elf druid, somehow lured to the fighting scene. Interrupt her Wrath in any way you can as it can get rather painful. Remember racials that stun, interrupt or force her to lose target, as well as Scatter Shot, pet abilities and knockbacks.

In addition to the cast, she will also summon adds that can quickly get dangerous if they’re not either kited or killed in short order. Whichever route you choose to go, make sure that you have either Exhilaration or Spirit Bond to buy a few more seconds should you get hit.

  • Spec: SV for kiting and AoE damage on the adds
  • Talents: Silencing Shot, Lynx Rush, Barrage, Narrow Escape
  • Talents to avoid: Binding Shot
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, Mirrored Blades, Scatter Shot, Ice Trap, Black Ice, Explosive Trap (for kiting; note the loss of damage)
  • Glyphs to avoid: No Escape – the critical strike bonus does not trigger from Ice Trap
  • Utility pets: Nether Ray, Moth, Gorilla

Dominika the Illusionist can be a bit tricky for a hunter. She will constantly summon mirror images of herself; while these adds have very little health, they will do increasing amounts of damage and quickly kill you if left alone.

To deal with this, you may need to spec Survival or Marksmanship. SV has a strong AoE with Improved Serpent Sting but MM’s ability to practically spam Multishot may win you this battle. A very helpful trick from Ruta is to glyph Mirrored Blades and let the mirror images kill themselves with their own cast.

  • Spec: SV or MM
  • Talents: Crouching Tiger, Silencing Shot, Thrill of the Hunt, Lynx Rush, Barrage
  • Useful glyphs: Mirrored Blades
  • Utility pets: Nether Ray, Moth, Gorilla – Spirit Beast, Worm, Chimera if you stay BM

Deeken is this rank’s dancemaster. The floor will be covered in moving fires; jump over them, run around them and try not to panic. His Mechano Kick will knock you back – often straight into a fire – so do your best to keep distance.

A very helpful trick is to turn your camera completely vertical. When you view the fight from the ceiling down, you may find the moving lines and their movement easier to predict.

  • Talents: Binding Shot
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, Deterrence, anything that helps you kite
  • Utility pets: Spirit Beast (for Spirit Mend); anything with a stun or slow

Rank 5

Continuing with the dance theme, you will now face Millie Watt and her lightning pools. The trick to this fight is to stay close to one of the lightning circles and dip into it for a moment just as her cast of Megafantastic Discombobumorphanator ends. Do not take up residence in the lightning though – it still hurts!

You can interrupt Millie’s casts but make sure to always have at least one lightning pool on the floor in case she uses the Discombo… thing on you.

  • Talents: Silencing Shot,
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, Deterrence, Mirrored Blades
  • Utility pets: Spirit Beast (for Spirit Mend); anything with a stun or interrupt

From the cold north, Fjoll is a vargul caster with a number of shadow-based abilities. His Shadow Blast will knock you back so either interrupt it or always keep your back to a safe place. Landing in the middle of a shadowy void zone will kill you faster than you can run out of it. Another thing to interrupt is his Dark Barrage; choose which one to go for and position yourself accordingly.

  • Talents: Silencing Shot
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, Deterrence, Mirrored Blades
  • Utility pets: Spirit Beast (for Spirit Mend); anything with a stun or silence

Proboskus is a water strider with the same abilities as jinyu rares in Pandaria. This fight has a tight enrage timer so avoid Deterrence if you can as it costs you valuable dps time.

Taking a hit from his Rain Dance is extremely dangerous, though not instantly fatal. Dance between the water droplets to avoid damage. I doubt Proboskus can be stunned during the channel but you might want to try just in case it works.

The cast you absolutely need to interrupt is Torrent. If for some reason you use Silencing Shot earlier and it’s still on cooldown, use Deterrence, Feign Death, Shadowmeld or anything else you may have available or you will face certain death.

  • Talents: Silencing Shot
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, Deterrence, Mirrored Blades
  • Utility pets: anything with an interrupt

Finishing up this rank is the Leper Gnome Quintet. This is another tricky fight for a hunter; you may need to spec Survival for the AoE damage. Kite the gnomes as best you can – their speed boost makes this tricky. Use Binding Shot and Deterrence to drop the stacking debuff off yourself before it kills you and make sure you have selfheals available.

  • Spec: Survival
  • Talents: Narrow Escape, Crouching Tiger, Binding Shot, Thrill of the Hunt, Lynx Rush, Barrage
  • Useful glyphs: Animal Bond, anything that helps you kite
  • Utility pets: Porcupine, Rhino, Warp Stalker, anything with a stun or slow

Good hunting and remember to share your tricks with those who find themselves tanking the Brawling floor!
